Divers are continuing to maintain the Antarctic Free Ocean Carbon Enrichment (antFOCE) system and deploy experiments. Each of our four chambers and two open plots are now full of various experiments including:
- a microscope slide that will measure differences in bacterial colonisation ('biofilms');
- gels that will measure changes in sediment chemistry (diffuse gradients in thin films);
- sensors that will measure light intensity in and around the chambers; and
- cameras mounted on the top of each chamber that will record time-lapse images of how biological activity changes sediment distribution ('bioturbation').
