The revised focus requires a change to the way Australian Antarctic Division (AAD) supports science projects. Commencing in 2021/22, Australian Antarctic Science Program grants will no longer be available. A review of this position will be undertaken in 2025 to ascertain the most effective model to support university led Antarctic science. The AAD is committed to ensuring that the $1.05 million previously allocated to the grants program continues to support the Australian Antarctic Science Program. These funds will be re-allocated to support the Program through commissioning of research projects to deliver specific Government priorities, purchasing of scientific equipment and support for early career researchers. The AAD will work with project Chief Investigators to identify these opportunities, including options to increase early career researcher participation.
