The AAD issues all the clothing you will need to carry out your work.

Use your clothing for the purpose that it is designed for. It deserves careful treatment. It is expensive and it is your primary defence against the cold. For rough work, use overalls to protect your more fragile garments.

Sewing machines, zip-fasteners, cobbler’s kits and darning materials are available at the stations. Everyone is expected to carry out their own basic clothing repairs.

Clothing is one of the greatest items of expenditure for the AAD. So please look after your items.

There is a small clothing store at each station with a limited range of items to replace lost or damaged articles. Replacements of worn items is permitted if the article has suffered reasonable wear and is beyond normal repair. The decision to offer a replacement will be made by the station leader.

Toiletries such as toothpaste/brushes, soap, shampoo and conditioner, shaving cream, razor blades, boot polish and brushes and waterproofing compound are freely available on station from a central store.

Expeditioners who prefer to have their own brands of toiletry items should purchase their own supplies before departure. People who menstruate can claim reimbursement for the cost of menstrual products.

Check the Expeditioner Handbook for more information.
