Friday 8 October 2010, 2-5 PM (AAD Theatrette)

Hobart-RUG – a group for R users

R is an open-source software environment for statistical computing and graphics (see www.rproject.org). Hobart-RUG is designed to provide a forum for R users, from beginners to experts, to get together and discuss R-related topics. The group will meet regularly to:

  • Hear talks on R-related topics

  • Share R issues, overcome problems, help others

  • Learn about new packages and techniques

  • Provide beginners with access to more experienced R users

  • Explore related tools

The Australian Antarctic Division will host meetings, with the first scheduled for:

Time: 2-5pm

Date: Friday 8 October, 2010

Venue: AAD Theatrette (located adjacent to the AAD Cafe) Channel Highway, Kingston

Guest speaker: Mark Bravington

Mark will talk about using his package mvbutils for organising and documenting your R work. He will show how to use mvbutils to EASILY create and maintain an R package from your functions. ("EASILY" as opposed to "following the insanely complicated path described in ‘Writing R extensions’".) (sic)

Other discussions for this first meeting: periodicity of meetings, a web presence (Google groups, Meetup?), future talk schedule.

Get involved. Learn. Teach. Share.

Enquires: john.mckinlay@aad.gov.au
