A secondary wastewater treatment plant was installed at Davis in 1991 and was removed in 2005 due to ongoing maintenance problems. The Antarctic Infrastructure group have been collaborating with Science and Policy branches to determine the appropriate wastewater treatment system for Davis. There are three treatment level options, and a variety of technologies, raising a range of environmental, financial and policy issues. This talk will discuss these issues and the background to waste-water treatment in Antarctica.Dave Waterhouse

Two 300 kilowatt wind turbines provide electrical power and heating at Mawson. Innovative technology makes it possible for the turbines to contribute a large proportion of the station's energy requirements. This talk will explore the wind turbine technology, its integration with the existing electrical and heating systems and discuss recent improvements in power stability and the upgrades to the power control system which are taking place this winter.Jeremy Bonnice
Infrastructure Engineer [Presentation.pdf]
The 2009/10 season was the biggest on record for the Infrastructure Group. This was born out of the Amderma in the 2008/09 season delivering the largest amount of cargo ever to Australia's Antarctic Stations. This presentation will update the progress that has been made on improving Infrastructure at the stations and setting them up so that future expeditions can take full advantage of the capacity of the stations.
