As the Summer Season at Casey draws to a close and our expeditioners begin to make their way home, it's an opportunity to reflect on how special this experience has been.

'Remembering Casey'

I invite you to pause, take a moment and breathe,
For the summer’s concluding and it’s come time to leave.
Consider this time, just like any, a gift.
So cast your mind back, in your memories drift.

At home they would ask, “Do you know what you seek?”
As our hearts whispered to us, “A life that’s unique.”
The wanderlust beckoned, with no way to ignore;
Curiosity triumphed as we yearned to know more.

“Home’s not a location, but a feeling,” they say;
“That we build for ourselves in our own special way.”
Which makes our time down here so hard to explain,
When our photos and words all just feel so mundane.

The trips out to Shirley, Wilke’s, Robbo’s and Jack’s;
We donned Div-issued ‘Yellows’ and ate out-of-date snacks.
There was Denman, Traverse and of course resupply;
Survival-camp bivvies kept us safe, warm and dry.

These most fleeting of moments, they rush, hit, then fade.
As their aftershocks linger, emotions cascade.
We’ll leave Casey shortly, though not as we came;
Our awareness of something that’s never the same.

So we’ll say our goodbyes, destinations we’ll roam,
With thanks to have simply called Casey our “Home.”
Now pause, take a breath and admire the view;
You are now part of Casey, and it’s now part of you.
