Three Australian expeditioners, injured in a helicopter crash in Antarctica, remain under constant monitoring at the medical facility at Davis station.

Given the nature of the incident and the extreme environment in which it occurred, we continue to manage them as having serious injuries.

All three patients are conscious and able to eat and drink. The condition of one has improved to the extent of being up and able to walk about.

The other two continue to be assessed and monitored for upper body injuries on a 24/7 basis by Australian Antarctic Division medical staff in Antarctica and Hobart. Advanced telemedicine is enabling input from specialists at the Royal Hobart Hospital.

The plan remains to arrange evacuation of the patients back to Hobart as soon as the medical staff consider it safe for them to fly, and weather and logistics permit.
