The Australian Antarctic Division is undertaking a medical evacuation of an injured expeditioner from the Prince Charles Mountains inland of Davis station.

The 21-year-old scientist received injuries, including a suspected broken arm, when she slipped on a snow slope.

The accident happened late last night Australian time (late afternoon Davis station time) at a field camp, 770 kilometres inland of Davis station.

The woman is in a stable condition and is being airlifted to Davis station where she will receive medical treatment.

The scientist is part of a team of researchers from the South Australian Museum which is studying the origins and dispersal patterns of invertebrates in the Antarctic.

An update will be provided tomorrow morning.
