Freeze Frame

Dr Tony Fleming has travelled to Antarctica many times in his role as Director of the Australian Antarctic Division; a position he has held since early 2011. Tony is the grandson of eminent Antarctic scientist Dr Raymond Priestley, who was part of Scott’s Terra Nova Expedition (1910–13). Tony undertook a private trip to the Ross Sea to mark the centenary of this expedition and a few months later he was pleased to officiate at Australia’s Antarctic centenary celebrations at Commonwealth Bay, marking 100 years since Douglas Mawson’s Australasian Antarctic Expedition (1911–14).

Tony took this photo of a black-browed albatross during his voyage to Commonwealth Bay in early 2012.
