Large items are more difficult to handle for shipping to and from Antarctica than smaller consignments. You should consider breaking down your consignment where possible to assist in all stages of the transport process to and from Antarctica. As an example 2 or 3 nally bins or similar is preferable to one large carton/crate.
A few things to consider before consigning large items are;
- Items larger than a 1 cubic metre or weighing more than 250kg should be notified to the Cargo Facility as early as possible to enable any special packing and stowage provisions to be taken into consideration.
- Contact details must be clearly attached to all items.
- Gross weight should be clearly marked on all items.
