All cargo for Australian Antarctic and subantarctic voyages is handled through the AAD Cargo Facility at M4.

Cargo can be despatched directly to M4, or can be handled through the Kingston store facility. On arrival at M4 cargo is receipted, packed and despatched according to the procedures and standards of M4.

The most important factor in getting your cargo south is meeting the cargo closing date. This date is set prior to voyage departure to give the M4 staff enough time to pack and manifest the cargo correctly, and to apply for Customs approval to load the cargo onto the ship.

If cargo is not manifested correctly we cannot obtain Customs clearance to export your goods to Antarctica. Details of cargo should be entered into the AAD Cargo Management System at www.aad.gov.au/econ.

Cargo cut-off dates

Cargo cut-off dates are published under individual voyage pages on the web. For example, the final date for the cargo for Voyage 1 is on the specific voyage information web page.

Getting your cargo back from station

All Return to Australia (RTA) cargo, both work and personal gear, is lodged through the station storesperson. The same level of detail as for southbound goods is now required by Customs for any equipment being returned to Australia. Full details of all work cargo is required, including item value and country of manufacture. Personal effects items must be listed and a packing list stating contents should be attached to the B534 Customs Form - there is no need to enter this information into the cargo management system.
