Heard Island and McDonald Islands is a subantarctic island group located in the Southern Ocean about 4000 kilometres south west of mainland Australia.

The islands enjoy World Heritage protection and marine reserve status and they are managed as part of the Australian Antarctic Territory. The islands are now unoccupied by humans and remain biologically pristine.
