This week Mawson expeditioners headed to Mt Henderson to install a new radio antenna and support mechanism on the repeater after the last one snapped in high winds. Radio coverage to Macey Island field hut and Auster Rookery should now be greatly improved.

Medical team Mawson sprang into action this week with Doc Jim running a two-day refresher scenario for the volunteer medical staff. It's worth remembering that the day jobs for all except Doc Jim are more along the lines of fixing broken pipes and electrical cables than broken humans.

Fire Chief Mick had planned a full fire training exercise for the station that included smoke, blackout conditions and casualties. Throughout the week he could be heard maniacally chuckling to himself about his plan.
Winter has definitely arrived at Mawson, with consistent low temperatures, a proper blizzard and everyone's favourite topic: water rationing. Throughout the summer, we enjoyed the luxuries of practically limitless glacial water pouring into our catchment area. But no more.

A sense of serenity has settled over the station like a warm blanket, as we adjust to the reduced station numbers and greater number of free rooms.
