Job title: Electrician

Describe your role in two sentences: As an electrician on station it my responsibility to keep the power on 24/7 in all the weather conditions Antarctica can throw at us, we also maintain and repair the fire system around station. I’m also part of the SAR team (technical search and rescue)

What did you do before your joined the AAD: I worked as an electrician in servicing the industrial, commercial and domestic sectors around the Brisbane area.

What is your favourite part of your job here at Mawson? I enjoy the challenges that come with working in such a harsh environment but it’s the people that make it my favourite part.

If you were not an Electrician what would be your dream job: Maybe a pilot

What do you like to do in your spare time? To get out and see as much as I can of this amazing place.

What song sums up your Mawson experience so far? Queen, We are the champions (because we won the annual darts comp between the other three stations 9–0)

What is your favourite book / movie (or both) and why: Movie: Blade Runner. I enjoy sci-fi.

What is your typical ‘Slushy FM’ genre? Do you have a particular favourite? I try to play more alternative music but it ends up being pretty mixed.

Describe your Mawson experience with: a sight, a smell, a sound, a feeling and a taste.

Sight:  The Auroras

Smell: The smell of the empire penguins at Auster Rookery

Sound: The whooshing of the wind turbine when the wind is up, which is most days at Mawson.

Taste: The fantastic food every day.
