This week at Macquarie Island: 9 December 2011

Cribbage and Yuca have become the official card games played by Macquarie Islanders, both on station and in the field. After four months of one-on-one battles, Pete K and Melissa decided it was time to organize the ultimate cribbage championship.

There were four pools in total, with 14 people contending. Dana and Ben T streaked ahead on the points chart, with Ash following close behind. Novice Claudia was happy to beat her partner Pete P, who later made a surprise comeback against cribbage queen Melissa. Tom and Jack were locked in serious competition, and Doggo surprised everyone by revealing up-till-now hidden cribbage talents.

The final was an absolute nail biter, with top dogs Pete P and Doggo battling it out neck to neck to the bitter end. A good hand saw Pete P come up trumps, making him Macquarie Island’s ultimate cribbage champion. Well, until the next cribbage face-off, that is…
