Hut maintenance

This week at Macquarie Island: 14 October 2011

This week Eve and Wayne headed down to the Brothers Point Hut to clean out the water tank. Now that the rats have disappeared (following the MIPEP baiting), we can get this tank decontaminated. They cleaned, drained and sterilised the tank and all the lines leading into and out of it, as well as cleaning the collection gutters. Every future visitor to the hut will appreciate this work.

On their return journey they passed the spot at the Nuggets where the royal penguins come ashore for breeding, and spent some time watching the birds make their way up the creek bed to their rookeries high above.
