This week at Davis we're having a memorable ANZAC Day, visiting Brookes Hut, learning about quad bike recovery techniques and making hydrogen on station.

  • A brown stain on the beach shows where the elephant seals are resting ashore. Out on the sea-ice you can see trails through the snow where the seals have moved out towards the ice edge, trying to find open ocean.

This week at Davis we're enjoying Easter, getting out on the sea ice, visiting the powerhouse and checking in on hydroponics.

This week at Davis we're testing the sea ice in front of station, gaining weight and bidding farewell to the penguins.

  • A "solar pillar" phenomenon where there appears to be a thick beam of light between the sun at sunset and the clouds above it. Rather like a chimney coming up from the sun.

    31 March 2017

This week at Davis we look back at some Amery ice shelf work conducted in February, talk with Daleen about her Masters study on Antarctic leadership which won an award, meet Chief Fitzy and see the first real sea ice in Prydz Bay.

  • Two large male elephant seals, sitting up and opening their mouths at each other in a display of dominance.

    24 March 2017

  • Rhys and Bryce are roped up during cravasse rescue training.

With the ship leaving last week, we're in our first week of winter. As a result, we're starting to 'winterise' buildings and get into new work routines.

  • The Aurora is seen sailing past icebergs, heading north, leaving us for the winter and returning expeditioners to Hobart.

This week at Davis we've been finishing off our search and rescue training, having a good time with our Indian neighbours and we held an art show.

  • A zodiac travels near an enormous iceberg. The boat looks very small. The iceberg is curvy having rolled over in its history.

    3 February 2017

This week at Davis we've been very aviation focused with a Hercules coming in and some deep field projects having been achieved. However, we did still manage to combine fire training with washing the vehicles.
