    We have had another busy week, cramming in a lot in the space of just seven days. To start with we had the skiway out in front of the station to prepare in anticipation of the CASA 212s arrival from Casey, when it is ready and the weather allows. The finished article looked mighty fine until the wind got up last night and it is now slightly lumpier than this image portrays.     The Melbourne Cup was watched with eager anticipation from all punters alike, with the proceeds of the sweepstake going to charity. Last week saw Kim and Ben, helped by Nick on Friday, going around all the huts and tidying them up, ready for field work for the summer season. Long days in the field hardly feel like a chore when you have Adelie penguins coming to check out what you’re up to, seal pups galore, and a sunset so incredible that you have to be here to believe it.     We visited Magnetic Island, the site of a large Adélie penguin colony, so that Adam could make adjustments to the cameras set up there. There were a number of birds scattered around the colony, but most were not yet committing themselves to a position. One conscientious individual must have arrived a few days earlier as he had already finished his nest, ready for his partner when she returns.     Overcast skies returned late Tuesday, followed by the wind on Wednesday night. However this did not deter the intrepid-type expeditioners who still managed to maximise photo ops on the clear-sky days for sight seeing expeditions to the Sorsdal Glacier and a wild life spotting tour around Long Fjord.
