Out and about in Davis Town

A stroll around Davis town reveals a hive of activity; a myriad of projects with expeditioner trade teams going about their allocated tasks.

Most jobs can only be achieved during the relatively brief Antarctic summer while temperatures hover around zero or become marginally positive with the summer trade team of 31 personnel.

In this edition we cover a few of these projects which are changing the skyline of Davis.

Some of the smaller projects emerging:

Greg Crawford excavating for a new landing for the Pineapple renovations for use by the pilots, engineers, and AGSOs.

Kenny Smith (ESS), Cliffy, and Michael Goldstein positioning the new smokers’ hut (ironically to replace the old smokers hut that burnt down a couple of seasons back), so those with this dying culture will have a cozy fireproof hut.

Also underway is the commissioning of ‘Thunderbird Antarctica’ a sophisticated high pressure water jet ensemble to be used to strip-off and recover the old paint from the 16 station fuel tanks by Francis Ryle, Ilias Zotos and Mark Davis under the direction of Joe Brennan (ESS), prior to their repainting by Frank Herbold.
