As an electrician on one of our Antarctic stations, your work will be interesting and challenging.
You are likely to gain a more wide ranging experience within the trade than you would at most other workplaces in Australia, as you will basically be maintaining the electrical network of a small town.
Your tasks will range from domestic house wiring to commercial industrial activities: installing power points to maintaining diesel generator sets and wind turbines!
You will also maintain the heating and ventilation systems, the Building, Monitoring and Control System (BMCS) and all station refrigeration, whether it be for domestic, commercial or scientific purposes.
Fire is a major threat down south and the maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems are ongoing tasks for the station sparkie.
In addition to your own trade, you will often called upon to work with other trades people such as carpenters, diesel mechanics and plumbers.
Sounds like you?
