Do you have an interest in aviation, like hard physical work and want to spend some time in Antarctica at the cutting edge of our new air transport system?

AGSO positions are based at Davis and Casey and work with primarily the intra-continental CASA-212 aircraft and helicopters. When travelling on the ship, AGSOs are also involved in ship-to-shore helicopter operations. There may be some opportunity to assist with field projects in the aircraft.

AGSOs carry out a variety of jobs including:

  • skiway preparation using heavy machinery
  • aviation fuel handling
  • cargo operations
  • conducting safety briefings for expeditioners
  • carrying out weather observations
  • helicopter sling loading operations
  • working with expeditioners to assist them generally to use the aircraft in the most efficient way for their particular scientific or operational projects.

Additional training is provided by the AAD in Aerodrome Inspection and Reporting, meteorological observations, dangerous goods acceptance and packaging, helicopter sling loading operations and licensing to drive various vehicles such as the over-snow Hagglunds.
