Each station has its own waste disposal system. Specific waste management requirements are outlined in detail in the Operations Manual.

Each station system is managed by the waste management officer (WMO) with the help of the station leader and all on station.

Rubbish is sorted regularly for incineration on station, or return to Australia (RTA) for disposal or recycling. It is your responsibility to sort your own waste.

There are three main categories:

  • recyclables (RTA)
  • rubbish (RTA)
  • burnables

There are bins for the collection of each category of waste around the station, including the kitchen, bar and lounge, and in other buildings including the labs, workshops, and dongas. Please use them correctly.
