Telephone systems

Telephones are installed in all work places and most bedrooms at the stations. Telephone booths allow those people who do not have a telephone in their bedroom to make private calls home.

Telephone calls around the station, to AAD Head Office or to another station are free but any calls made to Australia or other countries are charged to the person making the call. Identification of the caller is by PIN entry.

Wireless systems installed at the stations and on chartered ships allow the ships, when in range of the station, to seamlessly interface into the telephone system.

The core of the stations' telephone network is an Asterisk VOIP PBX located in the operations building.
