The transfer of fuel from resupply ships to the fuel farms and between storage tanks on the stations is a potentially hazardous operation. Fuel transfers are undertaken with stringent environmental precautions as outlined in the fuel transfer manual.

All people who are required to undertake fuel transfer receive instruction or training in the operation of the equipment, spillage prevention and other measures.

At the stations, the plant inspector provides instruction to personnel involved with the transfer of fuel from the ship and around the stations.

At Head Office, the Engineering Section provides instructions to Voyage Support staff on the operation of the ice edge refuelling system, resupplying fuel with lay flat hose over the water and the fuel barge.

In the event of a fuel spill, station specific fuel spill procedures are in place.
