How do I know if I have a problem?

How you feel is the best indicator. You need to consider seeking assistance if you:

  • feel pre-occupied with a problem
  • feel a failure because you can't seem to solve a problem
  • spend a lot of energy denying there's a problem or hoping it will go away
  • have trouble sleeping
  • experience frequent mood swings
  • feel unhappy most of the time
  • experience problems with family, friends or workmates.
  • You might even start to get sick.

Your work performance can provide warning signs as well. You may:

  • miss deadlines
  • have frequent accidents
  • make frequent mistakes
  • withdraw from or avoid workmates
  • need more time than usual to start and finish tasks
  • are often absent from work.

If something is making life hard you don't have to do it alone. Take advantage of the professional assistance available through the EAP - it is there for you.
