How do I access the program?

Self referral

Any employee of the AAD, expeditioner or immediate family member (partner and dependant child/ren) can personally contact Occupational Services. No one else needs to know!

Expeditioners in Antarctica can contact Occupational Services or call them directly and arrange for a counsellor to return their call. The AAD will reimburse Occupational Services for the cost of their return calls thereby minimising cost to the expeditioner. It is not necessary for expeditioners or their families to contact anyone at the AAD to gain access to the service.

Supervisor referral

Although the EAP is designed to encourage self referral, there will be occasions when supervisors consider that it may be beneficial for an employee to seek EAP counselling. As a supervisor you would be prompted by concerns about work performance where there seemed to be a pressing personal problem involved. You should recommend referral to the EAP only after discussing your concerns with the employee. The employee retains the choice of either using or refusing the offer of counselling assistance.

Union referral

As union representatives may have close ties with employees and their families, they may also be able to assist by recommending the program to employees
