Communications Technical Officer and Supervising Communications Technical Officer

Annual base salary

CTO $72,590 pa ($2,783 per fortnight before tax)

SCTO $80,165 pa ($3,073 per fortnight before tax)

In addition whilst working in Antarctica an allowance of $54,460 pa is payable.

As Communications Technical Officer (CTO) you will carry out routine and complex telecommunication installation, maintenance tasks and operate communications equipment.

As Supervising Communications Technical Officer (SCTO) you will be in charge of the communications centre at a station and will supervise telecommunications repair, maintenance, installation and operating work.

This role involves maintaining:

• highly complex telecommunications equipment, systems and facilities at a station.
• IT infrastructure at a station, including the provision of a helpdesk service to other expeditioners.
• radio masts and antennas.
• miscellaneous electronic office and amenities facilities, including audio visual equipment.

You will also operate radio equipment for communication with field parties, aircraft, ships and small watercraft, and provide assistance to science programs as required.

You'll have an associate diploma, comparable qualification or sufficient relevant experience to be able to carry out the duties of the position.

The typical employment period for Communications Technical Officers/Supervising Communications Technical Officers is generally 15 months.

Recreation Leave - You will accrue recreation leave at the equivalent of 20 days for each full year worked. Please note that recreation leave is not available in Antarctica.

Superannuation - A generous employer superannuation contribution of up to 15.4% will be paid in addition to salary and allowances.
