Annual base salary
(while in Australia)$60,074 pa ($2,303 per fortnight before tax)
In addition whilst working in Antarctica allowances of $54,460 pa are payable.
As Station Chef you're responsible for station cooking and catering, food and kitchen hygiene, maintaining accurate records of all foodstuffs and consumables and stock control, and assisting with the re-ordering of foodstuffs and consumables for the succeeding expedition.
You'll satisfy varied dietary requirements, eg. vegetarians and vegans, and provide a nutritious and varied diet for all expeditioners from Monday to Saturday inclusive (Chefs are rostered off on Sundays during winter months). In addition to duties on Station you'll also manage food stocks at field huts and depots.
This role also involves supervising and training rostered kitchen staff, and promoting a convivial and sociable working and dining environment. There may also be occasions when the Casey station chef will move to the Wilkins Runway to relieve the Aerodrome Camp Support Officer.
Additionally, you'll participate in Station support training courses, such as fire fighting, nursing/anaesthetics, boating, hydroponics, first aid, and attend field training.
Prior to departure for Antarctica, you'll assist with re-ordering kitchen equipment and consumables, and food including items for special dietary requirements. On Station you're responsible for accurate stock and usage reports, providing this information to the Chef Supervisor to assist with reordering food supplies for the following year.
You will have completed an indentured apprenticeship and have wide experience in the trade.
The typical employment period for Chefs varies between approximately 6 to 15 months.
Recreation Leave - You will accrue recreation leave at the equivalent of 20 days for each full year worked. Please note that recreation leave is not available in Antarctica.
Superannuation - A generous employer superannuation contribution of up to 15.4% will be paid in addition to salary and allowances.
