Working as a General Tradesperson in Antarctica

Annual base salary

(while in Australia)

$51,958 pa ($1,992 per fortnight before tax)

In addition whilst working in Antarctica allowances of $52,632 pa are payable.

The Tradesperson has specialist trades skills to assist in the delivery of capital works projects - the construction of new facilities plus the operation and maintenance of existing station buildings and building services.

The number of positions varies from year to year as does the skills required: riggers, painters, tilers, welders, refrigeration mechanics, plasterers, boilermakers, etc.

If you possess a trade certificate or licences as a plant operator, electrician, plumber or carpenter please apply for those advertised positions.

If you don't meet all the requirements don't be discouraged. In making final selections we take into account overall team building and the mix of skills required. However, please note that these roles are for people who work in specialist trade areas.

The typical employment period for a Tradesperson is approximately 6.

Recreation Leave - You will accrue recreation leave at the equivalent of 20 days for each full year worked. Please note that recreation leave is not available in Antarctica.

Superannuation - A generous employer superannuation contribution of up to 15.4% will be paid in addition to salary and allowances.
