Here is the opportunity of a lifetime – to practice generalist medicine in one of the most challenging, rewarding and unique environments in the world... Antarctica.
As an Antarctic Medical Practitioner (AMP) you'll provide complete surgical, medical and dental care for a remote community at an Australian Antarctic station, during a voyage and in Antarctic and subantarctic field environments.
You'll be the sole medical practitioner for 12 to 15 months on station for between 15 (winter) to 80 (summer) expeditioners, and for 130 passengers and crew on expedition voyages.
As part of this role you'll deal with issues of public health, occupational health & safety and nutrition, as well as conducting research on human interaction within the Antarctic environment.
The experience of living and working in this remote region is very different from that of most suburban or rural practices and most AMPs look back on their time in this beautiful, harsh and icy environment as stimulating and rewarding.
Applicants will be required to provide evidence of unrestricted general or relevant specialist registration as a medical practitioner with the Medical Board of Australia and of Basic Medical qualification, Postgraduate fellowships and/or qualifications and experience (Certified copies).
Recreation Leave - You will accrue recreation leave at the equivalent of 20 days for each full year worked. Please note that recreation leave is not available in Antarctica.
Superannuation - A generous employer superannuation contribution of up to 15.4% will be paid in addition to salary and allowances.
