Engineering Services Supervisor

The Australian Antarctic Division is now accepting applications for job opportunities supporting the 2018–19 Australian Antarctic Program.

Overview of the role

As the Engineering Services Supervisor you will schedule and supervise the safe undertaking of all on-site activities carried out by a group of trades personnel. This includes electricians, plumbers, carpenters, plant operators, technical officers and other associated building and construction trades (painters, boilermakers, etc.) engaged in operational and planned preventive maintenance, construction and refurbishment projects.

As the leader of this team of trades personnel, you will be required to oversee the safe on-going operation of the station’s buildings, infrastructure and services. These operational activities will include power generation, water production and supply, wastewater treatment, station heating, etc.

ESS positions are generally only available for the summer period – usually a contract period of approximately 8 months.

Employment conditions

Salary and allowances

The annual base salary (while in Australia) is $85,907 per annum ($3,293 per fortnight before tax).

Additional allowances totalling $59,186 per annum are payable while working in Antarctica.

Superannuation

A generous employer superannuation contribution of up to 15.4% will be paid in addition to salary and allowances.

Recreation leave

You will accrue recreation leave at the equivalent of 20 days per annum pro rata. Please note that recreation leave is not available in Antarctica, but will be paid out on return to Australia.
