Aircraft Ground Support Officer

The Australian Antarctic Division is now accepting applications for job opportunities supporting the 2018–19 Australian Antarctic Program.

Overview of the role

As an Aircraft Ground Support Officer you will be responsible for the provision of ground support to fixed and rotary wing operations in Antarctica. This will involve operation of machinery, manual work, fuel handling, interfacing with fixed/rotary wing aircraft, transporting of passengers and cargo to and from aircraft. Aircraft schedules are heavily influenced by weather conditions and periodically involve working long hours to capitalise on periods of good weather.

AGSO positions are generally only available for the summer period and will be based at Casey and Davis stations.

Employment conditions

Salary and allowances

The annual base salary (while in Australia) is $64,376 per annum ($2,468 per fortnight before tax).

Additional allowances totalling $59,186 per annum are payable while working in Antarctica.

Superannuation

A generous employer superannuation contribution of up to 15.4% will be paid in addition to salary and allowances.

Recreation leave

You will accrue recreation leave at the equivalent of 20 days per annum pro rata. Please note that recreation leave is not available in Antarctica, but will be paid out on return to Australia.

Eligibility

To be eligible for consideration you must be either an Australian citizen, a New Zealand citizen, or a resident of Australia with a valid visa granting appropriate work rights in Australia.
