Antarctica as a space laboratory

The Australian Antarctic Division has a collaborative agreement with the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and analogue space projects have been conducted at the continental stations for several years.

Much of the research has relevance beyond Antarctica. The problems faced by personnel in polar regions, especially those related to isolation and living and working in confined environments, are also experienced by space crew. Mutual studies have enormous potential to enhance the performance, health and safety of people in both settings.
