The ANARE station

The goats were shipped to Macquarie Island to provide fresh milk for the expeditioners. In the above photo, the sheep in the pen behind were Border Leicesters, and the expeditioners bred up to a flock of 40 during the year for fresh meat.

Some expeditioners had to tie themselves onto the partly constructed building to avoid being blown off by the wind.
