Mike Craven has made an extensive contribution to Antarctic science in both auroral physics and glaciology during 5 winter and 2 summer ANARE expeditions. He contributed to research, administration and training of expeditioners for the Atmospheric and Space Physics program, beyond the level to be reasonably expected for the level of position he occupied.

Mike’s sense of humour, artistic skills and willing participation in station tasks and activities have contributed significantly to the success and positive group atmosphere of the teams with which he has been associated. He is known as a popular presenter of scientific material as well as a capable field leader and mediator.
