Knowles Kerry’s contribution to Antarctic science and environmental conservation is so diverse as to not be easily summarised. He is one of the dominant figures of the Australian Antarctic biology program and was instrumental in the establishment of the Marine Biology program which is now a focus of Antarctic Division research.

He was a member of the Australian delegation which negotiated the Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) and has been involved in CCAMLR activities for some 16 years.
