William (Bill) Ware gave outstanding service to the Bureau of Meteorology’s Antarctic program. For this, he was awarded the Australian Antarctic Medal. The award recognises Bill's long-term dedication and service over a 16 year period.

As Senior Meteorological Observer at Mawson in 1968, Bill showed outstanding leadership. He maintained a full observational program with a small team of three staff. He was able to maintain this standard, despite the prolonged medical incapacity of one of his three staff.

From 1969 to 1978, Bill was the training instructor for Antarctic meteorological observers. He significantly improved the quality and effectiveness of the program over this time.

Bill's skills, knowledge, management and coordination have been invaluable. Bill made an outstanding contribution to the Antarctic meteorological program.
