Ricky Besso, Senior Carpenter, wintered at Davis in 1985, having previously wintered at Macquarie Island in 1982. As an expeditioner Rick displayed exceptional qualities of selflessness, application to duty, and interest and involvement in the broad range of science and general expedition duties.
As a tradesman he excelled at his work, was conscientious to the extreme, and provided the most willing guidance and assistance to all.
