“The fellowship was a truly incredible experience. I lived and worked alongside a great bunch of people and saw and did things I never expected I would. Our complete immersion in the world of the station has given the work we have developed a level of authenticity and detail that would never have been possible to find any other way. The hardest thing about the whole experience is leaving Antarctica."

Meet Jane Allen

Jane Allen is one of Australia’s most experienced television writers, producers and creators. She has written for over 20 television series, from cop shows to sci-fi to kids animation and Australian classics.

Arts Fellowship project

Jane Allen spent summer at Mawson research station in 2018/19. During those 3 months, Allen collaborated with Jesse Blackadder on an adventure novel about the first children’s expedition to Antarctica, and a contemporary television drama series about life on an Antarctic research station.

Allen produced and was lead writer for the ABC legal drama, Janet King, and produced and led the writing team on Crownies. She was writer and producer of the ABC’s muder mystery Troppo (2021), and of ABC's Indigenous sci-fi series Cleverman. Allen’s recent work includes AACTA nominated drama Halifax: Retribution for Nine Network, writing for The Heights Season Two for ABC, Netflix’s The New Legends of Monkey, and The Unlisted which won the 2020 Prix Jeunesse International award for Outstanding Children’s Television.
