Canberra musician Alice Giles was one of two artists announced as recipients of the Australian Antarctic Arts Fellowship for the 2010–2011 season.

Alice Giles recorded some musical compositions played on her harp after sailing to Mawson and Davis stations in Antarctica. The pieces have been developed into a concert in partnership with the Australian National University.

Ms Giles followed in the footsteps of her great grandfather, Cecil Madigan, who was a member of Sir Douglas Mawson’s Australasian Antarctic Expedition of 1911–1914.
